Republicans are largely answerable for the leap, in response to pollsters. Fifty-seven p.c of Republicans surveyed chosen immigration as the highest concern, a rise from 37 p.c in January. There was a small improve within the proportion of independents who chosen immigration, and no significant change within the proportion of Democrats who did so.
The response comes amid weeks of Washington back-and-forth over immigration and border coverage. Home Republicans not too long ago tanked a bipartisan border invoice superior by the Senate, with Speaker Mike Johnson declaring it useless on arrival. Former President Donald Trump, the probably GOP nominee for president, pushed members of his social gathering to dam the bipartisan proposal, denying President Joe Biden a signature immigration coverage achievement forward of the November election.
Twenty p.c of these polled ranked “Authorities,” as the highest concern going through the nation, the second highest proportion of any choice. Authorities ranked first in January and ranked first every month from January 2023 to November 2023.
The ballot surveyed 1,016 adults and was carried out from Feb. 1 by Feb. 20 through phone. The margin of sampling error is +/-4 proportion factors.
