It appears increasingly likely that Donald Trump will secure the Republican Party’s nomination for the next U.S. presidential election, with a dominating performance in GOP primaries.
Nikki Haley remains the only viable contender, as others such as Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy have fallen behind. Despite facing several criminal proceedings, Trump‘s popularity remains high, and he currently leads in polls against President Joe Biden.
Willing to debate Trump
Meanwhile, ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith, who once contemplated a presidential run, expressed on ‘The Howard Stern Show’ that he no longer plans to run but would “love” to debate Trump.
“Can I confess to you, though? I will, I will. People gonna call me crazy. Obviously, I have my show ‘First Take’ on ESPN every weekday morning, right? It’s a debate show. I would love to be in a presidential debate,” Smith told Stern.
“I’d eat him alive. I’d debate Trump any day of the week. Any day of the week. Name the time and place, and I’d show up.
“Do you know what I would do if I was on the stage with Trump and Trump tried to talk about the way that I look? Do you know how much material I would have? Look at him. Are you kidding me?
“I marvel at how people have limited comebacks for him. Jeb Bush, ‘low energy,’ no comeback. Marco Rubio, ‘little Marco,’ no comeback.”
In New Hampshire, Trump‘s victory over Haley affirmed his control over core Republican voters, making him the frontrunner and reducing the likelihood of any rival surpassing him.
Trump‘s success in the first two primary contests without facing a serious challenge enhances the prospect of a rematch between him and President Biden in the general election.
